Agriculture is still a very important industry in Williams County. We have over 46,000 acres into corn with a acre yield of 128 bushes/acre, giving us close to 6 million bushels. Soybeans are our biggest crop with over 76,000 acres into production with an average yeild of 30 plus bushels per acre. We have over 21,000 acres into wheat production with an average yeild of 68 bushels. And finally, we have over 6,000 acres into hay production, yielding approximately 3 tons/acre. Livestock numbers have been going down with all cattle and calves around 16,00 head and hog numbers at 19,000 head. There are 950 farms, with a total of 214,000 acres into farming. Make sure your SMV emblems are visible and be sure lighting on tractors and equipment is working. Also, read and follow all label direction when applying pesticides. Above all, take time off every so often to get off of the tractor and wake up. Let's make this a safe farming season.

2013 Ohio Beef Cattle School
Williams County is a host site for the 2013 Ohio Beef Cattle School Web Series. The programs are Tuesday, January 29, February 26 and March 19 from 7-9 p.m. The programs will address some of the most important issues currently facing Ohio's beef industry.
